Affiliation with an ASHI Training Center is a requirement for authorization as an Instructor. As an ASHI Instructor, you may teach for multiple ASHI Training Centers, but you can be affiliated with only one Training Center that is responsible for you.
All ASHI Instructor authorization has a period of two years. Applications for authorization must be submitted by the Director of the Training Center with which the Instructor is affiliated. The two methods of achieving authorization are:
ASHI Instructor or Instructor Trainer Development Course - Attendance and successful completion of the appropriate course, either via ASHI’s online program or in a classroom setting.
Reciprocity - Holding current Instructor credentials with another nationally-recognized and reputable organization or having teaching and related health and safety industry experience.
ASHI has thirteen Instructor types. Each Instructor type is authorized to certify providers in specific ASHI programs. Click here for a list of these types and their corresponding programs.
ASHI also has three different Instructor levels:
| Instructor |
Instructor Trainer (IT) |
Master Instructor Trainer (MIT) |
An Instructor is an individual who is authorized by ASHI to certify providers in ASHI programs under the auspices of a Training Center
Certification as a provider is a prerequisite for eligibility for Instructor authorization. |

Once authorized, Instructors must teach a minimum of two ASHI courses during the authorization period, and respond promptly and thoroughly to any Quality Assurance concerns. To reauthorize a current Instructor, increase the programs he or she is authorized to teach, increase his or her level, or make any other changes, Training Center Directors or Instructors may log in to gain access to the Instructor Status Change tool and form.
